Obituary for Betty Jo Campbell

Betty Jo Campbell of Herrin, passed away on May 31, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born on February 17, 1936 in Benton, IL to Raymond and Edna Mae (Gulley) Mitchell.

Betty attended Benton High School. She was a talented artist and created beautiful pencil, pastel, and oil paintings. Her cooking was well-known and adored by many. Betty also enjoyed playing cards and reading. An avid horse racing fan, she always loved to watch the Kentucky Derby. She was also an animal-lover and took great joy in caring for her dog, Rusty. Most remember Betty well for her ability to tell the best stories. She will always hold a special place in the hearts of many.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Edward Ray Mitchell and Tom Mitchell.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Campbell, whom she married on September 3, 1971 in Benton, IL; her twin daughters, Cindy (Groves) Robinson and husband, David; and Kim (Groves) Murphy and husband, Audie; grandchildren, Todd (Tabitha) Robinson and Amanda (Jon) Wheaton; great-grandchildren, Michael Robinson, Aubree Robinson, Rylee Robinson, Logan Wheaton, and Nolan Wheaton.

Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 4, 2018 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Pastor Mike Williams officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin.
