Obituary for Decima Whitfield

Decima Whitfield, 80, of Herrin, passed away 5:50 a.m. Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.

Decima retired in 1985 as a Special Education Teacher from the Marion School District.

Decima was a member of the First Baptist Church in Herrin; the Adult2 Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church; former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Decima was born January 18, 1937 in Williamson County, IL to John R. and Lula Bonnie (Williams) Willoughby.

Decima married Eugene C. Whitfield on April 17, 1968 in Mt. Vernon, IL. He preceded her in death on August 9, 2016.

Surviving are a niece, Deidra Schaub of Pennsylvania; two nephews, Scott Willoughby of New York, Mike Willoughby of New York and close friends, Lora and Randy Settle of Herrin.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Robert J. “Bob” Willoughby and a nephew, Robert John Willoughby.

Services will be 12:00 noon, Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Goldman officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested and may be made to the First Baptist Church, 1500 South 13th Street, Herrin, IL 62948
