Obituary for Donald L. Cutrell

Donald L. Cutrell, 85, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Parkway Manor in Marion.
Don drove for Egyptian Freight Lines for 28 years and, he and his late wife, Gladys owned and operated Don’s Drive In in Herrin for many years.
His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and when his family left their home, he would always say to them “Watch out for the deer”. He could fix any project that his family gave him to do. He had a personality that attracted people to him and in his time at Parkway Manor the nurses and staff came to think of him as family.
He was a member of Cloud 9 Ranch, he loved fishing, camping and golf. To Cody and Wes, they called him G-unit. He was also an avid Cardinal fan when they were winning.
He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Herrin and the Teamsters Local Union # 347 and a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps.
Don was born January 10, 1932 in Crab Orchard, IL to Lee and Kate (Springhart) Cutrell.
Don was married to Gladys M. Rushing on Sept. 27, 1963 in Energy, IL. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2017.
Surviving are three daughters, Trina (Gary) Clark, Cheryl (Tom) Buffington and Karla Johnson all of Marion; eight grandchildren, Benjie Kent, Misty Riddle, Wes (Ali) Buffington, Cody (Brandy) Buffington, Ashley (Matthew) McLaughlin, Adam Johnson, Justin (Rachael) Johnson, Kaleb (Kassie) Johnson; seventeen great-grandchildren, Nicole Kent, Abbie Kent, Gage Kent, Lanie Kent, Ethan Riddle, Hevyn Riddle, Drake Buffington, Keirsten Buffington, Kylie Buffington, Colton Lezu, Hayden Lezu, Emerson Buffington, Ryker McLaughlin, Trent Johnson, Ashlyn Johnson, Marie Johnson, Koal Johnson; sister, Barbara Rinella of Houston, TX and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a son-in-law, Danny Jobe; two sisters, Nadine Cutrell, Helen Almaroad and a brother, Harley Cutrell.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Pastor Mark Goldman officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment with military graveside rites conducted the Herrin American Legion Post # 645 and Baker-Ladd V. F. W. Post # 1567 will be in Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested and may be made to the First Baptist Church of Herrin; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
