Obituary for Edwina S. Sons

Edwina Sue Sons, 61, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family early Thursday morning, January 18, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Edwina worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for nursing homes and later for private home healthcare.

Edwina was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Herrin.

Edwina was born July 8, 1956 in Carbondale, IL to Dewey Lewis and Madge (Isaacs) Sons.

Surviving are a daughter, Stephanie Switzer McDannel of Herrin; four grandchildren, Dustin Switzer and fiancé, Becca of Marion, Destini Shaye (Dan) Story of Mississippi, Bethany Wells of Herrin, Matti Switzer McDannel of Herrin; six great grandchildren, Kyler Mezo, Paisley Story, Barrett Story, Vinny Switzer, Darius James and Dominick James; mother, Madge Sons of Herrin; sister, Donna Sons Howerton of Herrin; four nephews, John (Kathy) Howerton of Herrin, William “Billy” (Jennifer) Sons of Herrin, Kenneth “Kenny” (Tonya) Sons of Independence, MO, Shane (Danielle) Sons of Blue Springs, MO and eleven great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Kenneth Sons.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Harlow officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy.
