Obituary for George L. Knoob, Jr.

Carterville – George Knoob, Jr., 82 of Carterville, passed away at Parkway Manor in Marion on Wednesday, April 5, 2017.
George was born on March 2, 1935 to George L. Knoob, Sr. and Doris May (Price) Knoob in Brooklyn, New York.
George married Evelyn Warren in Las Vegas, NV, on December 23, 1961. Together they have celebrated 55 years of marriage.
George worked and retired from Maytag in Herrin. He was a proud member and past president of the I.A.M.A.W. union. He was also a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Knoob of Carterville; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Jeff Kirby of Marion; son, George Knoob III of Johnston City; daughter, Annamarie Schultz of Johnson City, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Elizabeth Knoob of Carbondale; daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Shawn Dawson of Energy; eight grandchildren, Joshua (Andrea) Kirby, Justin (Sara) Kirby, Steven Knoob, Austin Knoob, Zachary Henson, Kelsey Henson, Jason Schultz, and Ben Schultz; six great grandchildren; sister, Florence Talmadge of Connecticut; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Mary Lou Knoob of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 10, 2017 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin. Funeral Services will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home. As per George’s wishes, he will be cremated following the service and inurnment will follow at a later date at Herrin City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carmi Baptist Children’s Home, 949 County Road 1300N, Carmi, IL 62821.
