Obituary for James Neil Estes

James Neil Estes, 78, passed away 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Neil was a retired coal miner having worked for Zeigler Coal Company in Johnston City and Coulterville, Old Ben Coal Company and Zollar Coal Mine in Johnston City.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Herrin, the UMWA and the Carbon Lake Club in Murphysboro.
He was born October 22, 1938 in West Frankfort, IL to Guy C. and Bess (Lemon) Estes.
Neil was united in marriage with Joan McBride on December 27, 1958 in Murphysboro, IL.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Joan Estes of Energy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie Joan and Mark Colombo of Marion, Lana Christine and Kent Russell of Herrin; son and daughter-in-law, James Tracy and Lisa Estes of Herrin; six grandchildren, Dax Cody Mezo, Tyler Ross Mezo, Zelpha Rae Russell, James Alexander Estes, Parker James Estes of Herrin and Kaliber Kreid; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Alice and John Williams of Murphysboro; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Edna Estes of Murphysboro, Jane and Harold Boehm of Cowden, Judy Hollowell of Pennsylvania and Ben McBride and special niece and nephews, Nancy Beavers, Dean Boehm and Ivan Boehm.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Billie Bruce Estes, Charles Drew Estes and a son-in-law, Bud Mezo.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Todd Hawk officiating. Interment will be in Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Harvest Time Worship and Herrin City Library.
