Obituary for James Richard Bright

James Richard Bright, 83 of Herrin, formerly of Cairo and Centralia, passed away 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the Herrin Hospital in Herrin.

Richard was employed as a tool and die maker before becoming plant manager for Valley Industries in Cairo for several years and later transferring to the Centralia facility as their plant manager for an additional nine years before his retirement in 1991.

Richard was a member of the Church of the Redeemer Episcopal in Cairo where he served on the Vestry and as Church Treasurer for many years and currently attends St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Harrisburg.

Richard was also a member of the International Association of Machinist; UAW Skilled Trades Council and former member of the I.O.O.F., He attended classes at both the University of Illinois and Shawnee Community College.

Richard was born February 9, 1935 in St. Louis, MO to Everette Olen and Marjorie Louise (Fielder) Bright.

Richard was united in marriage with Dwanda Jean Farmer on June 29, 1955 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Cairo, IL.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Jean Bright of Herrin; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah “Debbie” and Jim Ebbert of Herrin; grandson, Robert James and Kassie Ebbert of Carterville; great grandchildren, Jaxon Warren Ebbert and Leah Claire Ebbert of Carterville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary Louise Sampson and a brother, David Olen Bright.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 101 East Church Street, Harrisburg, IL with Fr. Timothy A. Goodman officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin. Burial will be in San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin.

Memorial donations are suggested and may be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
