Obituary for John Dale Pope

John Dale Pope, 76, passed away May 6, 2018 at his residence in Herrin.

John retired from General Telephone. He served in the U.S. Army.

John enjoyed gardening, coin collecting, driving his dog Buddy in his convertible, driving the Herrin Festa Italiana Queen in the parades, and having coffee with his friends at McDonalds every morning.

John was born May 16, 1941 to Dean S. and Mary Lucille (Jack) Pope McGovern in Herrin, IL.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Jim Rasor of Carterville; two grandsons, Jeremy and his wife Destiny Pope, Tyler Rasor; great grandson, Jace Pope; brother, Charles Pope of FL; half-sister, Debbie Stephens of TX; half-brother, Rob Eaton of MN; and several nephews and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry Pope.

Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. David Dyer officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are suggested to be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 204 Halfway Road, Marion, IL 62959.
