Obituary for Merwin E. Bryan

Mernie Bryan, 79, of Herrin, passed away 12:01 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Herrin Hospital in Herrin.

Mernie was born October 14, 1937 in Gorham, IL to Coy and Estella (Porter) Bryan.

Mernie formerly worked for Norge Industries for 24 years He also worked in the coal mines at Freeman #6 and Inland Steel #2.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Myer, Virginia assigned to the Old Guard in Arlington Cemetery.

Surviving is his daughter, Teresa Mays of West Frankfort; four grandchildren, Amanda Mays, Kimberly Mays, Nathan Burnett, and Nicholas Dawson; seven great grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Gail and Fred Cravens of Energy, Virginia and Harold Frazier of Washington, IL, and Leona Williams of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Coy Albert Bryan and two sisters, Brenda Assie and Nina Robinson.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Herrin City Cemetery with Rev. Don Colson officiating.

The family prefers that no flowers be sent, donations can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
