Obituary for Ralph H. Burchell

Ralph Burchell, 79, of Johnston City, passed away 3:38 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2017 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

Ralph was born October 23, 1937 in St. Louis, MO to Harold and Carrie (Hampton) Burchell.

Ralph was a coal miner at Inland Steel and Consolidated Coal Company for 33 years. He owned a Ralph’s Pet Shop and Ralph’s Grocery Store in Benton. He was a member of Christian Covenant Fellowship in Carterville for over 20 years.

Ralph married Clarice Brown on June 6, 1959 at Eakin Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Benton.

Surviving are his wife: Clarice Burchell of Johnston City; daughter and son-in-law: Robyn and Charlie Brummett of Poplar Bluff, MO; son and daughter-in-law: Mike and Lori Burchell of Marion; 8 grandchildren: Joshua A. (Rindi) Brainard, Jonathon G. (Tamara) Brainard, Jeremy M. Brainard, Jeneé Burchell, Paul Burchell II, Jessica Burchell, Holly Schuetz, and Lora Schuetz; 10 great grandchildren: Aiden, Haven, Elijah, Drake, Joslyn, Elissa, Madison, Ariela, Lincoln, and Liliana.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold “Junior” Burchell.

A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Christian Covenant Fellowship Church in Carterville with Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Christian Covenant Fellowship Church, 1025 South Division Street, Carterville, IL 62918.
