Obituary for Robert E. Jackson, Sr.

Robert Earl Jackson, Sr., 84, of Energy, died 9:46 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Bob retired as a Master Sergeant after honorably serving in the U. S. Army for 26 years. After his retirement from the U. S. Army, he retired from the Marion Veterans Administration Hospital. He also owned and operated Energy Trophy and Rubber Stamps for 15 years.
Bob was born December 9, 1933 in Carbondale, IL to Earl and Geneva (Daniels) Jackson.
As a young boy, he spent his summers with his Grandma Ida Fisher, who he idolized and loved very much.
Bob was united in marriage with Wanda June Bailey on June 16, 1956 in West Frankfort, IL. She preceded him in death on June 15, 2017.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene and Randy Wagley of Oakland, TN, Alisa and Tony Gualdoni of Energy; seven grandchildren, Casey Tapp, Chris Tapp, Robert Earl (Cookie) Jackson III, Lauren (Eric) Orbesen, Tyler Jackson, Nicole (Mike) Helsley, Spencer Gualdoni; six great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Linda Scott of San Antonio, TX; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill and Lorraine Phillips of Rantoul, Charles and Verla Bailey of Herrin, Jim and Gayla Bailey of Tunnel Hill; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Alice Crawford of Herrin, Debbie and Steve Hutchens of Louisville, KY and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Robert E. Jackson, Jr.; parents; Grandma Ida Fisher; brother, Roy Scott and two sisters, Shirley McKinney and Dorothy Lively and a brother-in-law, Raymond E. Bailey.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. David Dyer officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Leonard Wood Military Honors Detail will be in Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin.
Memorial donations are suggested and may be made to Lone Oak Baptist Church and the Alzheimers Association; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
