Obituary for Verna "Bunny" Schubert

Verna “Bunny” Schubert, 87, of Herrin, IL, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at her sister’s home in Energy with her loving sisters and family at her side.
Bunny was a homemaker. She formerly worked as a teller for the Bank of Chicago, in the IBM Dept. at the Elgin Watch Company in Elgin, IL and as a bookkeeper for Indiana Oil Company in Remington, IN.
She attended the Second Baptist Church in Herrin and worked as a volunteer for the Ladies Auxiliary at the Herrin Hospital and had received her 500 hour pin.
Bunny was born November 22, 1930, in Marion, IL to Vernie Hartwell and Florence Jane (Tolbert) Hartwell. Her father, Vernie Hartwell was killed in a mine accident prior to her birth. She was raised by her mother and Kenneth K. Beltz, whom she considered her father.
She married Carl Ottomar Schubert on October 21, 1959, in Dundee, IL. From this union were born three sons, Michael Schubert, Mark Schubert, James Schubert.
Surviving are three sons, Michael Schubert of Herrin, Mark Schubert of Easley, SC and James “Jamie” Schubert and his companion, Lisa of South Elgin, IL; four grandchildren, Tyler Schubert of Elgin, IL, Kyle Schubert of Elgin, IL, Rayanne Schubert of Elgin, IL, and Abigail Schubert of Easley, SC; three sisters, Judy Hampton of Energy, Joyce Beltz of Herrin, and Peggy Denison of Herrin; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Alana Wagner of Herrin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Kenneth Irl Beltz, father of her children, Carl O. Schubert in 1999, brother-in-law, Boyd “Bud” Hampton, and longtime companion, William “Bobo” Bolinger.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2018 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. J. K. Tiffin officiating. Interment will be at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Herrin. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Elk’s Children’s Care Corporation or to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 204 Halfway Road, Marion, IL 62959; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
