Walter Kammler, 81, of Energy, died 11:25 a.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin. Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Herrin. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Mr. Kammler was a farmer for over 50 years, and a retired cutter with Smoler Brothers Garment Factory in Herrin.
He was of the Lutheran faith, a member of the International Garment Workers Union and a veteran of the U. S. Army during World War II.
He was born June 14, 1927 in Royalton, IL to August and Gertrude (Wolff) Kammler.
Walter was united in marriage with Lucille Moore on July 25, 1947 in Benton, IL.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Lucille M. Kammler of Energy; daughter, Patricia L. Bird of Herrin; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald D. and Sherry D. Kammler of West Frankfort; two grandchildren, Garett L. Bird and special friend, Amanda of Herrin; Kacy L. Linton and her husband, Danny of Energy and a sister, Dorothy Schulz of Chicago, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
