Carolyn S. Rushing, 80, of Herrin, passed away 7:05 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Herrin Hospital.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2009 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Donald Grammer will officiate. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the funeral home. The preferred form of remembrance is memorial donations made to the First Baptist Church Property Fund, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rushing was a retired school teacher, having taught 25 years at Westside School in Herrin and she also taught 1 year in the Carterville School District and 1 year in the Marion School District.
She was a active member and lived a life of service for the First Baptist Church in Herrin. Carolyn directed the Children's Choir at the Marion First Baptist Church, the First Baptist Church of Carterville and the First Baptist Church of Herrin for 40 years. She also was a member of the Jean Shepard Missionary Group and a Paul Harris Fellow with the Herrin Rotary Club.
She was born August 4, 1928 in Herrin, IL to Melvin Owen and Ruth (Benton) Miller.
Carolyn was united in marriage with Kenneth G. 'Bud' Rushing on June 18, 1949 in Herrin, IL. He preceded her in death on February 27, 2005.
Survivors include, two daughters and a son-in-law, Kendra Sue Ferrari of Marion, Lynne Karen and Stan Brown of Wilmington, NC; three grandchildren, Chad Ferrari and his wife, Brandi, of Brentwood, TN, Nichole Ferrari-Hamm and her husband, Chris, of Nolensville, TN and Megan Brown of Wilmington, NC; two great grandsons, Thomas Denon Ferrari and Robert Owen Ferrari both of Brentwood, TN; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Imogene and Leonard Gentry of Kissimmee, FL; one niece, Vicki Gentry of Kissimmee, FL and special cousin, Barb Cannon of California.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
