Charles W. Bevis, 69, of Herrin, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2009 at the John Cochran V. A. Medical Center in St. Louis, MO.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Donald Maas will officiate. Interment with graveside military rites conducted by the Scott Air Force Base Honor Detail will be in Williams Chapel Cemetery at Ewing, IL. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Bevis retired in 1988 after 23 years of service in the U. S. Air Force.
He was of the Protestant faith and a veteran of the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
He was born January 1, 1940 in Whittington, IL to Byford E. and Mary R. (Holman) Bevis.
Surviving are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark Bevis and Todd Bevis of Florida, Nicholas and Nichole Bevis of Indiana; mother, Mary Bevis of Herrin; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Carlie Bevis of Bush, Bobby Gene and Kathy Bevis of Herrin; several nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, brother, Jerry Bevis and his grandparents.
