Virginia M. Vinson, 82, of Herrin, formerly of Vienna, passed away 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Herrin Hospital in Herrin.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Herrin. Rev. Ed Hoke will officiate. Committal services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Vienna Fraternal Cemetery in Vienna, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2009 at the Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin. The preferred form of remembrance is memorial donations made to the First United Methodist Church of Herrin or Hospice of Southern Illinois, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Mrs. Vinson was a retired bookkeeper from the Shawnee Correctional Center at Vienna, IL. Prior to her retirement she formerly worked as office clerk in the Vienna Grade School office and as an Assistant County Clerk for the Johnson County Clerk's Office, but first and foremost, she was a mother to her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Herrin and formerly attended the Taylor Methodist Church at Vienna. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women at the First United Methodist Church.
She was born November 5, 1926 in Vienna, IL.
Virginia was united in marriage with George 'Jack' Vinson on September 15, 1945 in Dyersburg, TN. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1997.
Surviving are two daughters and two sons and their spouses, Robert A. 'Bob' Vinson of Jonesboro, Barbara E. and Bob Cummins of Lake Placid, FL, Janice and Larry Miles of Herrin and Dennis and Suzanne Vinson of Naples, FL. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and a half brother, Daniel Fisher of Creal Springs, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and her mother and step-father, Carrie and Logan Fisher.
