William A. 'Bill' Reynolds, 83, of Herrin, passed away 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Interment with military graveside rites conducted by the Herrin American Legion Post # 645, Baker-Ladd V. F. W. Post # 1567 and the IL Army National Guard Honor Detail will be in Hillcrest Cemetery at Carterville. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The preferred form of remembrance is memorial donations made to Hospice of Southern Illinois; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Bill was a retired coal miner, having last worked for Freeman United Coal Company.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Herrin, life-time member of the Baker-Ladd V. F. W. Post # 1567 in Herrin and a veteran of the U. S. Navy during World War II, serving in the south Pacific.
He was born November 18, 1925 in Freeman Spur, IL to Thomas Wesley and Annie (Profitt) Reynolds.
Bill was united in marriage with Dorothy J. Lane on March 18, 1947 in Marion, IL.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Reynolds of Herrin; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Larry Pounders of Tuscumbia, AL; two granddaughters and their husbands, Kary and Keith Borden, Lauren and Drew Carpenter both of Cherokee, AL; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Jared Borden. He is also survived by three brothers and a sister-in-law, Carl and Verna Mae Reynolds of Herrin, Charles Reynolds of Columbia, IL, Phillip Reynolds of Herrin and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Joe Reynolds, parents, four brothers, Harold, Adron, Stanford and Hershel Reynolds and three sisters, Lavada Branca, Myrtle Staton and Beatrice Reynolds.
