Betty J. Staton, 65 of Herrin, died 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2009 at her residence.
In accordance with her wishe's, she will be cremated. Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Monday, October 5, 2009 at Herrin City Cemetery with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Family and friends may gather at Herrin City Cemetery prior to the service on Monday.
Mrs. Staton formerly worked as a nurse's aide for area nursing homes, hospitals and Williamson County Programs on Aging. She also co-owned and operated with her daughter a cleaning service in Herrin.
She was born March 12, 1944 in Herrin, IL to Jasper and Opal (Funk) Jeffery.
She was united in marriage with Melvin Staton on June 26, 1970 in Herrin, IL. He preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1994.
Surviving are, son, James D. and Amy Slankard of Seven Valleys, PA; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sherry L. and Scott McConnell of Marion and Crystal D. Staton-Cousey of Herrin; five grandchildren, Johanna Slankard of Seven Valleys, PA, Michael Slankard of Seven Valleys, PA, Jeremy McConnell of Marion, Austin McConnell of Marion and Aarron Missena of Herrin and step-daughter Melody Renee and John Kerley of Herrin. She is also survived by three sisters and a brother, Mary Elizabeth and Norman Childers of Herrin, Revanna Louise and Ronald Troutman of Sugar Grove, IL, Tami L. and Steve Reiger of Freeman Spur, and Fred L. Alexander of Rhodesdale, MD. The family would also like to acknowledge Betty's life friend Lisa Huff of Arnold, MO.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one sister, Opal J. Kubinski.
