Clyde LaVerne 'Bozo' Edwards, 86, of Herrin, died 6:25 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at Friendship Care Center in Herrin.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2009 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Ralph Brandon will officiate. Interment with Military Graveside Rites will be conducted in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Edwards was President and Business Agent for Teamsters Local # 347 in West Frankfort, IL. He formerly drove for Bonifield Brothers for 25 years.
He was a member of the Marion Eagles, American Legion and V.F.W., formerly served on the Merit Board in Herrin, a veteran of the U. S. Navy during World War II, was aboard the USS Tennessee when Pearl Harbor was attacked on Dec. 7, 1941. He was also a 32 degree Mason and member of the Ainad Shrine Club.
He was born January 1, 1923 in Corinth, IL to Lanzo 'Lonnie' and Lela Mae (Baker) Edwards.
LaVerne was united in marriage with Velma Deloris Castleman. She preceded him in death on August 2, 1978.
Surviving are, daughter, Dee Barnes of Herrin; twin sister, Fern Wade of Herrin and sister, Irene Laviolette of Davison, MI; step-son and daughter-in-law, Clifford and Carol Bohlman of Peoria, IL; six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, Norman Ray Edwards and Kent Allen 'Cricket' Edwards, sister, Olene Jones and his parents.
