Wanda L. Stucker, 81, of Energy, ended her 'celebration of life' at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at the Herrin Hospital.
Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Dr. Jerry Ford officiating. Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Herrin. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Wanda was born September 16, 1928 in Cerulean, Kentucky to Herman M. and Maggie June (Mattingly) Burris.
She married Jesse Leonidas Stucker on March 31, 1946 at the Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy, IL. He preceded her in death on August 19, 1990.
Surviving are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Phillip Leon Stucker of Kempner, TX, Darryl Len and Paula Stucker of Energy, David Lee Stucker of Energy; former daughter-in-law, Tina of Energy; eight grandchildren, Shawn (Lisa) Stucker of Energy, Chad Stucker of Energy, Casey Stucker of Energy, Jessica Stucker of Energy, Christina (Cody) Deaton of Marion, Hai (Mai) Thai of Greenville, SC, Son (Toan) Thai of Kempner, TX, Hoang 'Sonny' (Amanda) Nguyen of Silver Springs, MD; eight great grandchildren, Arien Stucker of Lakeland, FL, Kelsey and Jared Stucker of Energy, Casey Stucker, Jr. of Energy, Adisa Rashana of Energy, Sonny 'Leonidas' Thai of Kempner, TX, Tina Lou Thai of Kempner, TX, Hunter Deaton and Hailey Deaton of Marion, Samantha Long and Brendan Long of Silver Springs, MD; two sisters, Ouida Mann of Energy, Venita (Virgil) Riley of El Paso, TX and two brothers, Dan (Joyce) Burris of Anderson, SC and Don (Linda) Burris of Energy; brother-in-law, George Von Tungeln of El Paso, TX; three sisters-in-laws, Billie Marie Stucker of Energy, Audrey Stucker of Energy, Pat Wende of Santa Teresa, NM as well as many special nieces and nephews and a special friend, Ann Jennings of Herrin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a sister, Marilyn Von Tungeln
Wanda attended Herrin High School, John A. Logan College and received her Masters Degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She worked as an administrative assistant for various industries in the area and taught Typing, English and Business subjects for the CETA program at the VTI in Carterville, IL. She also worked as a secretary for the Herrin Unit # 4 School District.
She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Herrin for over 60 years where she enjoyed teaching in the nursery and children’s departments.
