Jim Johnson, Sr., of Herrin, passed into eternal life at 5:10 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale at the age of 73.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Elks 11th Hour Ceremony at 12:00 noon Wednesday. The preferred form of remembrance is memorial donations made to Children's Care Corporation, c/o Herrin Elk's Lodge # 1146, 221 East Monroe Street, Herrin, IL, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Jim was born March 16, 1936 in Herrin, IL to the late Silas and Beatrice (Moudy) Johnson.
He was married to Jackie Goins on October 6, 1956 in Herrin, IL. They spent 53 wonderful years together.
Jim was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Herrin Elks Lodge # 1146 and currently served as Lodge Secretary. He was also Secretary of the Elks South District and a PDDGER of the Elks Grand Lodge and a member of the Marion Eagles.
Those left to cherish his life on Earth are his wife of 53 years, Jackie; his sons Jim Jr. of Herrin, Brad and wife Anna Mae of Aiken, SC, his grandsons Graham and wife, Leslie, Joshua and special friend Cindie Daniels all of Herrin; his granddaughter, Lindsay of Aiken, SC; great grandson, Silas James Johnson of Herrin; sister-in-law, Judith Elayne Leeper of Herrin; special cousin, Joan Mooneyham of Freeman Spur, many nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved beagle, Cricket.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Pramote for his care and support along with his wonderful staff, Cindy, Lisa, Darlene; Dr. Marie Falcone, and the nurses of Herrin Hospital.
