Sharon Kay (Watson) Yates, 61, of Energy, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 3:43 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2009 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Services will be 12:00 noon, Monday, November 9, 2009 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Don Grammer will officiate. Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Herrin. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. The preferred form of remembrance is memorial donations made to the First Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Mrs. Yates worked for 20 years in the Rehab Department and other departments at the Herrin Hospital in Herrin.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Herrin and the WMU Women's Group at the First Baptist Church. Sharon had a kind, sweet spirit was a very dedicated to her profession and a loving mother and grandmother. She enriched all the lives she touched and will be missed by all those who loved her.
She was born September 21, 1948 in Herrin, IL to Elmer Don and Norma J. (Brewer) Watson.
Surviving are a son, Stephen Eric Serati of De Soto; two grandchildren, Stephen Michael Serati of Herrin and Jordan Renae Serati of Herrin; mother, Norma J. Watson of Herrin; sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Warren Neil of Herrin; niece Kristin J. Benton and fiance', Casey Scott of Herrin; great nephew, Karson M. Stewart of Herrin; two aunts and two uncles, Faye Stump of Kutztown, PA, Joann Vick of Herrin, Barry Watson of Herrin, Jim Watson of Energy; eight cousins, Karen Rardin of Robinson, Kathy Irby of Robinson, Becky Symanski of Detroit, MI, Martha McClusky of West Frankfort, Carolyn Young of West Frankfort, Dan Brewer of Statesville, NC, Denver Brewer of Carterville and Mark Martens of Naperville and many special friends including Judy Laughlin of Herrin and her many colleagues at the Herrin Hospital.
She was preceded in death by a son, Scott Allan Serati, father, Elmer Don Watson, brother, Michael Don Watson and a nephew, Josh Gillin.
