Albert R. Gualdoni, 67, of San Antonio, TX died 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the Audie Murphy V. A. Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 27, 2009 at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by the Fort Leonardwood Military Honor Detail and the Herrin American Legion and V. F. W. Posts. Family and Friends are asked to gather at the cemetery from 10:30 until the time of the service. The preferred form of remembrance is memorial donations to San Carlo Cemetery; envelopes will be available.
Mr. Gualdoni retired April 1, 1986 as a Sergeant First Class with the United States Army after 23 years. After his retirement, he went to work for the V. A. Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.
He was of the Catholic faith and a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War for which he received numerous awards and citations, including the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal (w/ 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (w/ Silver Star and 1 Loop), Vietnam Service Medal (w/ 4 Bronze Service Stars), Army Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Meritorious Service Medal.
Albert was born January 10, 1942 in Herrin, IL to Emil A. and Lucy (Dobracki) Gualdoni.
Surviving are a daughter, Rachael; granddaughter, Brittney; four brothers and their wives, Emil and Peggy Gualdoni of Carbondale, Louis and Beauella Gualdoni of Herrin, James and Diane Gualdoni of Johnston City, Thomas and Lola Gualdoni of Herrin; several nieces and nephews; one aunt, Tillie Meziski of Red Ford, MI; one cousin, Phyllis Posteher of Pana, IL and his close friends, Rudy and Rosa Hernandez of San Antonio, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
