Bart Ladell 'Crow' Gwaltney, 82, of Herrin, passed away 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Herrin Hospital.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Robert Gray officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Makanda, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2010 and from 11:30 a.m. Saturday until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The preferred form of remembrance is memorial donations made to SEMO-NASV Child Advocacy Center, 69 Doctors' Park, Suite C, Cape Girardeau, MO 63703.
Mr. Gwaltney was retired self employed brick mason, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His family was his pride and joy.
He was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Carbondale, a veteran of the U. S. Army during World War II, and avid golfer, card player and lover of old country music.
He was born February 9, 1928 in Wasson, IL to Edgar Ellis and Mae (Hudson) Gwaltney.
Bart was united in marriage with Bonnie Jean Presley on July 10, 1948 in Carbondale, IL.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bonnie J. Gwaltney of Herrin; his children, Kathy Gaines and her children, Katy and Michael Gaines of Bloomington, IL; Steve Gwaltney and his wife, Diane Gwaltney and their children and grandchildren, John Henry Rains and his children, Christian and Cheyenne of Norfolk, NE, Bart Gwaltney and his wife, Jessica of Herrin and their children, Cameran and Jonathan James and Dee Meadows of Holiday, FL and his children, Deanna and Mia; Ernie Gwaltney and his wife, Charlene of Herrin, and their children and grandchildren, Amy and Todd Bricker and their children, Addison and Ansley of Ballwin, MO, Rebecca and Ben Lawler of Chesterfield, MO, and Jeff Gwaltney of Atlanta, GA; Zelma and Jim McIntosh of Holiday, FL and their children and grandchildren, Fonda and Jeff Bromeland and their child, William Patrick of Atlanta, GA, Brandon Brunotte and his child, Giovahn of Holiday, FL; Donna Moore and her husband, Rodney of Carterville, IL and their children and grandchildren, Dr. Mindy Moore and her husband, SSGT Joseph Cervantez and their son, Cannon of Carterville, IL, Adam Moore of Carterville, IL; Tammy Bea Gwaltney and her fiance', Ty Ludlow and her daughter, Alex Weinhold of Cape Girardeau, MO; two sisters, Janelle Wilson of Indiana and Bonnie Kay Glisson and her husband, Tommy of Carbondale, IL; two brothers-in-law, Robert Presley of Hurst, IL, James Presley and his wife, Doris of Murphysboro, IL and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Alvie Gwaltney, Ish Gwaltney and Eck Gwaltney and five sisters, Kathleen Gwaltney, Ellen Tippy, Helen Tippy, Edna Buff and Luyre Ann Neely.
