|Donald E. Anderson, 89, of Herrin, formerly of Johnston City, passed away 1:00 a.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Stonebridge Senior Living Center in Benton.
Donald was a retired coal miner having last worked at Freeman United Coal Mine # 4.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Herrin.
Donald was born August 23, 1924 in Williamson County, IL to Loren and Catherine (Richards) Anderson.
Donald was united in marriage with Leola Faye Powell on July 29, 1944 in Pittsburg, IL. She preceded in death on August 3, 2006.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Tom Murrah of Herrin, Judy and David Strunk of Pinckneyville; seven grandchildren, Tom (Jasmine) Murrah of Herrin, Melissa (Phillip) Neal of Lincoln University, PA, Brian (Andria) Murrah of Pittsburg, Eric (Melissa) Strunk of Owensboro, KY, Jennifer (Paul) Root of Spring Hill, TN, Jill (Darin) Dascotte of Pinckneyville, Chris (Diana) Murrah of Ballwin, MO; thirteen great grandchildren, Travis Neal, Craig Neal, Ethan Murrah, Hannah Dascotte, Loudon Strunk, Abbigail Dascotte, Charity Murrah, Nolan Murrah, Jack Root, Carson Murrah, Cole Root, Logan Strunk and Claire Root; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Elva Anderson of Marion and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Elnora Otey and four brothers, Coy Anderson, Paul “Pete” Anderson, Carl Anderson and Alfred Henry “Spud” Anderson.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Brad Harlow officiating. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
