Obituary for Douglas P. Elliott

Douglas Paul Elliott, 86 of Energy, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.
Doug worked as an electrician out of IBEW Local # 702 in West Frankfort and had formerly worked for the US Fish and Wildlife for 12 years.
Doug was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Herrin; a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Korean War, served with the Illinois Army National Guard for 12 years and was a former member of the American Legion Post # 645 in Herrin.
Doug was born September 12, 1932 in Energy to General Jackson Elliott II and Dortha Hazel (Hindman) Elliott.
Doug was united in marriage with Doris June McSpadden on April 3, 1954 at the First Baptist Church in Energy. Together they have spared 65 years of marriage.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Elliott of Energy; daughter and son-in-law, Brandi Suzanne and James Veach of Herrin; son, Troy Douglas Elliott of Energy; two grandchildren, Falan (Kalen) Miles of Colp, Ethan Cord (Miriam) Newman of Valier; five great grandchildren, Caden, Vance and Reed Miles, Abel and Silas Newman; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Deanie and Rev. Clyde Dillman of Herrin, Rosamary Robinson of Herrin; two brothers and a sister-in-law, George Elliott of Stockton, CA, Jerry and Arlene Elliott of Herrin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Art and Kathy Woodcock of Herrin and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Douglas Elliott; parents; sister, Helen Diann Woodcock; two brothers, General Jackson Elliott III and Richard Elliott; brother-in-law, Charles Robinson and sister-in-law, Frances Elliott and mother-in-law, Jewell Baker.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Second Baptist Church in Herrin with Pastor Matt Frizzell officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Second Baptist Church. Inurnment with Military Graveside Rites will be at a later date in Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy. Memorial donations are suggested and may be made to the Second Baptist Church, 900 South 11th Street, Herrin, IL 62948; envelopes will be available at the church.
