Obituary for Ed Schullian

Ed Schullian, 74, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at The Villas of Holly Brook in Carterville.
Ed was born March 19, 1945 to James Edward and Margaret (Schmit) Schullian in Quincy, IL.
Ed worked for the U.S. Post Office for 34 years. He was a manager at Post Offices in St. Louis, Mt. Vernon, Marion, Carbondale, he also worked in Missouri, Indiana and Kentucky.
Ed had a passion for sports, he played football, basketball and baseball in Quincy High School in Illinois. Ed joined the U.S. Navy serving aboard the USS WALDRON (DD-699) during the Vietnam War. After the Navy, he returned to Illinois and graduated from S.I.U.C. with a Bachelor’s.
Ed married Joan Abel in Quincy, IL on August 19, 1968. Ed and Joan had two boys once they moved to Southern Illinois.
Ed was a member of Herrin Elks Lodge# 1146, Knights of Columbus, The Masonic Lodge and the Shrine Club. He was a CASA volunteer and a volunteer cook for any organization that asked.
Anyone that knew Ed, knew he was the “Life of the Party” and willing to do anything to help anyone. He was passionate, charismatic and dedicated to a fault.
Ed enjoyed hunting fishing and golf. He was an avid traveler that enjoyed going on cruises and tropical vacations. He was a longtime coach in youth sports. His greatest passion was traveling the country watching his kids and grandchildren play sports.
He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian & Johna Schullian of Herrin, Chris & Mandy Schullian of Cabot, AR; five grandchildren, Hunter Schullian, Tori Schullian, Briahna Schullian, Deighton Schullian, Eva Schullian; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Sister JoAn Schullian of Decatur, IL, Kathleen & Paul Leo of Palo Alto, CA, Betty & Don L’Esperance of Westford, MA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and longtime companion Brenda Preston.
Ed will be cremated as per his wishes with a Celebration of Life gathering at the Herrin Elks Lodge from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2019.
