Obituary for Martin W. Steinmetz

Martin Wesley Steinmetz, 75, of Herrin, passed away 11:18 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2017 at his residence.
Martin was a millwright carpenter by trade having last worked for and retired from Holmes Construction. He formerly worked in Mine Construction and as a Steel Worker hanging steel.
Martin was a member of West Monroe Street Apostolic Church in Herrin, the Carpenters District Council of Greater St. Louis and was a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Vietnam era.
Martin was born July 7, 1942 in Herrin, IL to Louis J. “Dude” and Lorine B. (Adams) Steinmetz.
Martin was united in marriage with Jody Wyatt on July 7, 1969 at West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin, IL.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Jody Steinmetz of Herrin; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kendra Steinmetz of Herrin; grandson, Liam Wesley Steinmetz with a grandchild due on May 15, 2018; his brothers, Louis, Jr. and Sue Steinmetz of Herrin, Robert and Donna Steinmetz of Johnston City, Floyd Steinmetz of Carbondale; sisters, Lillian Leeds of Herrin, Barbara and Ed Phoenix of Ava, Julia Steinmetz of Herrin, Mary and Carl Fowler of Rocky Mount, MO, Margaret Bowland of Ina; three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rhonda and Rev. Richard Pearce of Herrin, Cheryl and Dr. Andrew J. Willis of Houston, TX, Chris and Patrick Jones of Herrin and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Lynn Steinmetz on March 1, 1977 and his parents.
Services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Pastor Richard Pearce, Pastor Terry Griffith and Rev. Robert Steinmetz officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment with military graveside rites conducted by the Herrin and Carterville American Legion Posts and V. F. W. and the IL Army National Guard Honors Detail will be in Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested and may be made to West Monroe Street Apostolic Church or to Barnes Siteman Cancer, 660 S. Euclid Ave, St. Louis, MO 63110.
