Obituary for Virginia L. Catlin

Virginia Lee Catlin, 91, of Pittsburg, IL, passed away on January 18th at 8:00 p.m. in Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Virginia was born in Oakland, California on January 9, 1927 to Charles Henry and Cora Ethel Dyer. She was the youngest of five children.

As she grew, so did her love of music. In her late teens she lived at the Hollywood Studio Club where she pursued a career as a singer and her beautiful voice blossomed. At first, she sang both big band and opera until her vocal coach encouraged her to choose which she would rather focus on. Ultimately her love of opera won out and she enjoyed performing with The Ventura County Light Opera Association.

On February 15, 1952 Virginia married Charles Victor Catlin in Ventura, California. Together they raised four boys.

October 29,1953 marked a new direction in her life when she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Her love for God, her family, and for others really came to define who she was as person. She began regular pioneering in May of 1969 and continued for 49 years until her death. There is nothing that she enjoyed more than telling others about Jehovah, his kingdom, and what it will mean for mankind.

Virginia's vibrant spirit and indomitable strength had a positive impact on the lives of others. She was the heart of her family and an integral part of the Marion Congregation.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Thelma Cannon, Charles Dyer, Marjorie Ferguson, Robert Dyer; Daughter-in-law, Irene Griffith; and her husband of 60 years Charles Catlin.

She is survived by her four sons and daughters-in-law, Sean and Patty Griffith of Poway, Calif., Mark and Judy Catlin of Bahama, N.C., Kim Michael Catlin of Tallahassee, Fla., Timothy and Delena Catlin of Pittsburg, IL; 13 Grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
